17th July: Celebrate Belgian National Day

Festivities to celebrate the Belgian National Day will be held at Ormond Hall, Belgian Beer Café, St Kilda Road starting at 5.30pm for drinks and finger food, followed by an evening full of excitement [dance, trivia night and lots of fun games!].

 

29th September to 03rd October: 2010 UCI Road Cycling World Championships

Come and support our cyclists at this world event.

 

The 2010 UCI Road Cycling World Championships will provide a wonderful showcase for the sport of cycling in Australia. This will be the first time this event has ever been staged in the Southern Hemisphere. The Time Trial events will be staged in Melbourne, followed by the Road Races staged in Geelong across the final weekend.

30th and 31st October: Minerva car rally - Join us for a unique opportunity to have a ride in one of several Minerva cars [made in Belgium in the early 20th century] which will participate in this rally.

In 1883, a young Dutchman, Sylvain de Jong settled in Antwerp, Belgium. He started a bicycle factory and by the end of the century was producing motorcycles. In 1903 he founded Société Anonyme Minerva Motors in Berchem (Antwerp). Volume car production started in 1904 with a range of two, three and four cylinder models with chain drive and metal clad wooden chassis and the Minervette cyclecar. The 8 litre Kaiserpreis won the Belgian Circuit des Ardennes race in 1907!

5th December: St Nicolas/St Niklaas – Alma Road Community House, East St Kilda.

As last year, children will have the opportunity to participate in various activities and most importantly meet St Nicolas/St Niklaas. Another afternoon packed with exciting events!
